The first
geological report was written by MACLAREN in 1906. LOVEMAN reported the more
geological fact in 1917. Coggin Brown had published a report of the “Geology
and Ore deposit of the Bawdwin Mines” which details in the main with the
geology around Bawdwin. Detail underground geological mapping was done by
Hobson in 1930. The mineralization sequence of the ore mineralization was
studied by DUNN (1936-38). In 1956-61 UNDP project took 14 diamond drill holes,
total depth were 3803 ft and penetrated three underground drill holes, (384
ft). Hunting Technical Services Ltd mentioned air photo survey, Topographic
mapping, geochemical survey, electromagnetic survey at the Bawdwin mine area in
1957-58. 44 Underground drill holes were drilled between No.5 level and No.11
level in Shan Lode (United Nation Special Fund Project) for ore result
calculation in 1962-64. U Soe Win made studies on late phase mineralization
carrying copper, nickel, and cobalt. Brinckman and Hinze of German Geological Mission in Myanmar were able to show the Bawdwin mineralization is closely
associated with the lower Paleozoic rhyolitic volcanism. Other contributions were Canadian International Development
Agency, Applied Geology Department’s ore result calculation, Australian Mineral
Development Laboratories - AMDEL, Resource
Service group for Mandalay mining
Company, 1969 to 1997.
